These guys are such a beautiful family and I’ve got a lot of love for them. Julia said to me that she needed family photos done and she knew I was the right person for the job. That just made my heart sing to know that a friend would put their trust in me to gather the memories of this time in their life.
And it does take some trust in your photographer to create these images for you. You have to “let yourself go” somewhat and lose control so that your inner you shines through. You need to be able to hand your heart over to the camera and to your family. Let yourself loose and don’t stress about the kids misbehaving. When we do a family shoot it usually goes for about an hour but most kids will have a very short attention span of only 10 minutes. The trick here is to keep it casual and not lose your shit at them to “behave and smile for the camera”. They don’t need to. They are allowed to roam free, to run and jump, to tickle and cuddle you. Rarely do they even need to be looking at the camera to make those beautiful candid moments work well.
These guys were the perfect subjects and really let themselves enjoy their session. It’s easy when you clearly love each other so much! I enjoyed every minute of photographing this gorgeous family, their loving connections and joyous faces. While I was editing their photos I was smiling so hard at every image that my jaw got sore!
Our time with our little kids is so short lived. You have them at home with you for 5 short years before school starts and then it’s like they are teenagers before you know it. It’s so lovely to see so many families these days that know the importance of existing in photos with your children. get in the photos… take #allthephotos
Thanks for putting your trust in me guys. Much love, Kate. xo
