Locations I love!
I have a wide range of locations that I have used all over Brisbane the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Bribie Island. We will discuss your location options and what would be suitable for you and your family depending on the time of day we need to schedule your session and what “look” you like. You can find a more comprehensive list of gorgeous photography locations here and another list here but here are a few of my favourites:
Booking your session.
I currently take bookings for weekend dates and the time of your session will vary depending on location and type of session. Indoor/in-home newborn photos are generally booked for 9 or 10am when bub is most settled. Outdoor, sunset photography sessions are booked for the hour before sunset to utilise the best of the gorgeous light. If you are an early bird then we can do a sunrise session in the hour following sunrise. Upon booking, your date will be confirmed and held for you once the date holding fee is paid and the portrait agreement signed. Click here to be taken straight to the calendar to book your preferred date.
Preparation for your session.
What to wear? Ahhh I knew it was coming, the question that everyone freaks out about when they know they are having their photo taken. I get it, you want to look “right” and there is one Pinterest board after another out there to help you nail that just-stepped-out-of-a-vogue-styled-shoot “look”. Pinterest is actually a great place to look for inspiration but for inspiration only. After you have looked, go shopping and buy some clothes that are YOU. You need to feel comfortable, beautiful, relaxed and in your own skin. Avoid large distracting logos on the front of shirts and avoid dressing everyone in the SAME thing. For pregnancy photos, a tight top and flowing skirt is perfect because we want to show off the belly. For families, mum should choose her outfit first and then the family can choose something complimentary. You will need to be able to move freely in your outfit and you may have to also sit on the bare ground, so keep that in mind. If in doubt, go for any of these colours: baby blue, navy blue, grey, apricot, peach, white, tan, neutrals. Please try to avoid large blocks of very bright or fluoro colours.
Kids: Make sure your children are prepared, and by that I DON’T mean to tell them that they need to behave and “say cheese”. What I mean is to have them dressed comfortably in clothes that they like, have their hair the way that you would like to see it in photos forever and make sure they are fed and rested. If littlies need a nap at a certain time of day please make sure you mention this when booking. There is no point shooting in great afternoon light if your child is always grumpy in the afternoons!
What to bring: As little as possible. If you don’t need that handbag, leave it in the car. We will likely move around a bit at your chosen location so if it’s not essential (or a prop that you would like to incorporate) then you don’t need to be lugging it all over the place. Leave your sunnies, wallet and phone in the car. I can hold your phone and keys safe in my bag if you need to bring them along. It’s best that you don’t have bulky items in your pockets.
Hair and makeup: For mums/ladies… consider getting your hair and makeup professionally done. It’s not essential but it will make you feel special and add that extra bit of oomph to your images.
Think about what you want out of this experience? Have a look around your home at empty wall spaces and visualise where you would like to hang your photos. Do you prefer framed prints or canvas? Would you like a collection of images to tell the “story” of your family?
During the session:
Relax and let the kids be themselves. It’s natural to want your kids to “behave” and smile for the camera, but remember kid’s sense your fear (fear of awkward family photos). Keep your cool and let me chase the kids around. If they don’t want to be involved in the session that’s fine, just leave them be. 99% of the time they will want to join in soon enough. You don’t need to tell the kids to say cheese or smile for me. In fact, please don’t do that. I’ll talk to them, get to know them and pull their natural expressions out. Natural expressions are the ones you want to remember and to hang photos of on your walls. Cheesy smiles we can leave for sitting on Santa’s lap! I often also include images in your gallery where your children have a pensive, relaxed or even grumpy face. This is real life, this is your child at their age, this is who they are… the good, the bad and the ugly.
I’ll guide you through the session and let you know where to stand and look. We will be a bit silly and we’ll make the kids laugh. If you don’t know what to do, just ask. I am very friendly (and just a bit crazy).
Following your session:
Allow up to 2 weeks for your final gallery to be edited. I will upload your images to a private, password protected gallery or you can choose for me to personally come to your house and have a viewing of your gallery. With an in-home gallery viewing you will also get to see and feel the gorgeous products on offer. From here you can choose any further products that you would like to incorporate into your package. Most clients like to order a 16×24 inch framed print of their favourite image or collage of 4 favourite images, and my stunning fine art album is very popular for those that love ALL of their images and just cant decide! Payment plans and credit card purchases are available.
The end result.
I deliver products personally if you live locally and have large prints. We don’t want them damaged. If you have a small package it will be lovingly packaged up and mailed to you. It’s so exciting opening up your gifts and viewing them printed professionally for the first time. I actually really love to smell (yes, smell) the crispness of the albums when they are delivered. So yummy!
